Sedimentary Process in Navigation Channel in an Estuarine Port, - A Case Study from the Port of Niigata, Japan

Abstract The present study focused on the siltation process at navigation channel in Port of Niigata, Japan. A part port is located mouth Shinano River, which longest one country. Due to discharged sediments through river and their deposition area, frequent dredging works are required for safety navigations waterway turning basins. purpose get a better understanding specific features sedimentary target area consideration any appropriate countermeasures optimization works. In study, we especially focus sedimentation processes around dredged channel, need keep planned depth from −5.5 −12 m, under complicated estuarine hydraulic conditions several field measurements have been carried out, including current measurements, bathymetric surveys by acoustic soundings with narrow multibeam sonar system.
